RONDOUT VALLEY CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a SCHOOL BUS DISPATCHER. The ideal candidate possesses professional communication and organization skills, patience, and an eye for detail. Knowledge of the surrounding geographic area to ensure effective and efficient routing is preferred.
School Bus Dispatcher is in the Ulster County Civil Service Competitive Class for which no valid eligible list currently exists. The position may therefore be filled by a qualified applicant on a provisional basis until such time as an appropriate eligible list can be established. As soon as practical, after a provisional appointment is made, the Ulster County Personnel Department will hold a competitive examination for the position. The provisional employee will be required to compete against all other qualified applicants. A permanent appointment will then be made from the resulting eligible list.
Qualifications:
- Six (6) months of full-time paid, or its part-time equivalent, experience with dispatching vehicles or driving a bus; AND
- Possession of the appropriate New York State Driver’s License; AND
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
- Candidates must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the rules and regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education and the New York State Department of Transportation.

Salary: $43,668 - $46,982
General Responsibilities:
Incumbents in this title may perform some or all of the following, as well as other related activities not described.
- Dispatches buses and drivers on assigned routes;
- Monitors all bus radio transmissions and responds to drivers’ requests;
- Assists in maintaining records;
- Assists in preparing simple reports;
- Assists in planning bus routes and schedules;
- Determines alternate bus routes, as necessary, due to road conditions or other circumstances;
- Responds to questions and complaints from drivers, parents and children regarding bus routes and schedules;
- Drive a school bus when necessary.
Work Schedule: During the school year, Monday - Friday, 7am-3:30pm. Summer hours as per contract.
Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the direct report and/or Superintendent.
