  • Knowledge of AAC, visual supports, and evidence-based strategies for teaching communication and self-regulation.
  • Strong classroom management skills and a team-oriented mindset
  • Experience writing and implementing effective IEPs.
    • Preferred:
      • Experience in a self-contained special class setting (e.g., 8:1:1, 12:1:1)
      • Background in working with students with autism, developmental language disorder, or sensory processing disorder
      • Familiarity with structured teaching models (e.g., TEACCH, PECS, Zones of Regulation)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specially designed instruction for elementary students with significant language, communication, and sensory processing needs in a small, supportive class setting.
  • Develop and implement effective Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with each student’s unique learning profile and communication/sensory needs.
  • Collaborate closely with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, behavior specialists, and other team members to support integrated service delivery and sensory regulation strategies throughout the school day.
  • Incorporate AAC systems, visual supports, core vocabulary boards, and multi-modal communication strategies into daily instruction.
  • Implement sensory supports and structured routines to help students self-regulate, focus, and access the curriculum (e.g., sensory breaks, movement strategies, fidget tools, calming areas).
  • Create a positive, inclusive learning environment that supports social-emotional development, independence, and peer interaction.
  • Engage in frequent communication with families to share progress, collaborate on goals, and support consistency between school and home.
  • Participate actively in professional learning communities and maintain knowledge of best practices in special education, communication development, and sensory integration.
