Rondout Valley Central School District is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Elementary Library Media Specialist to join our instructional team at Marbletown Elementary School. This position plays a vital role in promoting literacy, fostering curiosity, and supporting students in becoming thoughtful, responsible users of information. The successful candidate will lead the elementary library program while working collaboratively with teachers to integrate research skills, digital literacy, and a love of reading into the curriculum.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching library, research skills, and information literacy skills aligned to the NYSED School Library Media Program Standards, to elementary students.
- Delivering developmentally appropriate instruction in digital citizenship, including online safety, ethical use of information, and media balance.
- Providing explicit instruction and reinforcement in keyboarding/typing skills to support digital fluency.
- Designing and facilitating enrichment opportunities such as book clubs, makerspace activities, research projects, and digital creativity experiences.
- Collaborating with classroom teachers to support instruction
- Working collaboratively with all K-12 Library Media Specialists
- Promoting reading engagement and literacy development
- Managing and maintaining the school library collection
- Creating a welcoming and inclusive library environment
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee
Minimum Qualifications:
- NYS Certification as a Library Media Specialist
- NYSED Fingerprint Clearance
- Strong understanding of elementary literacy and student development
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an elementary school setting
- Experience integrating technology into instruction
- Additional certification, Early Childhood Ed/Childhood Ed
Salary: According to the RVF Teachers' Contract
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30am - 3:40pm
