Job Description

RONDOUT VALLEY CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a School District Treasurer.  The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented and trustworthy financial professional with strong accounting, organizational, and communication skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate accuracy, confidentiality, sound judgment, and a strong understanding of fiscal procedures, internal controls, regulatory compliance, and the responsible stewardship of public funds. Experience in school district or municipal finance is preferred.
 
Minimum Qualifications: 

Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.  A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, bookkeeping, treasury functions, financial reporting, or a related financial role is preferred.

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, organizational skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, are required. Knowledge of cash management, bank reconciliations, internal controls, and school district or municipal accounting practices is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.

General Responsibilities: The work involves responsibility for maintaining accurate financial records for the school district and assisting with the accounting, reporting, reconciliation, and fiscal operations of all District funds.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs accounting functions for all funds utilizing the New York State municipal accounting system.
  • Maintains the general ledger, cash receipts, and cash disbursement records for all funds.
  • Completes monthly reconciliation of trial balance accounts and preparation of Treasurers' Reports for Board of Education meetings.
  • Monitors District cash flow and assists with cash management activities.
  • Facilitates the annual risk assessment review in conjunction with the internal audit professionals.
  • Serves as the primary resource for the annual external audit process.
  • Assists in the preparation of corrective action plans related to audit findings.
  • Maintains records related to New York State and federal grants.
  • Maintains the integrity of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll accounting records.
  • Prepares the Annual Financial Report/ST-3 and assists the Assistant Superintendent for Business Services with the annual State Aid Claim.
  • Assists in the preparation of the New York State Financial Transparency Report and federal ESSA report.
  • Assists with year-end closing procedures.
  • Maintains the District’s fixed asset inventory.
  • Assists with monthly BOCES billing recordkeeping.
  • Ensures the Treasurer’s electronic signature is applied to checks drawn on District fund accounts, as authorized.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the direct supervisor and/or Superintendent.
