The Rondout Valley Central School District is seeking a Part-Time Special Education Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction at Rondout Valley Central School District.
Supervision and Special Projects:
- Strategic governance and oversight of Special Education Programs and Services as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
- Special Education Compliance Processes and Documentation
- Assigned Special Education Staff and Support Personnel, as designated
- Special Projects and Initiatives as Assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or Designee
Qualifications:
- New York State Certification required.
- School District Leader (SDL), School Building Leader (SBL), or equivalent administrative certification preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in special education and/or educational administration.
- Experience in program governance, leadership, or management preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to students with disabilities.
- Strong understanding of IEP development, compliance requirements, and special education procedures.
- Fluent in special education systems, practices, and compliance protocols.
- Experience reviewing IEPs for compliance and supporting corrective action processes.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, teachers, staff, parents, and outside agencies.
- Strong technology and computer skills, including familiarity with special education management systems and compliance platforms.

Essential Duties:
- Maintains communication with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and Superintendent of Schools that is timely, accurate, and professional.
- Assists in the oversight of special education programs and services district wide.
- With principals, manage special education teachers, psychologists, therapists (Speech, OT, PT), nurses, counselors, social workers, senior crisis counselors, teachers of the blind.
- Mediate disagreements with parents when possible.
- Reviews Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including Part 200 requirements.
- Provides support and guidance related to special education compliance, timelines, documentation, and procedural safeguards.
- Serves as a resource to building administrators, special education staff, teachers, and related service providers regarding special education processes and best practices.
- Assists with monitoring and supporting Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), intervention services, and student support systems.
- Supports the implementation and oversight of district special education initiatives and improvement efforts.
- Assists with preparation, review, and monitoring of special education documentation, reports, and compliance-related materials.
- Supports district efforts related to state and federal special education reporting requirements.
- Assists with coordination and oversight of Extended School Year (ESY) and other special education programming as assigned.
- Provides leadership and support for special projects designated by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.
- Participates in meetings, committees, and planning processes related to curriculum, instruction, student supports, and special education services.
- Collaborates with administrators and instructional staff to support inclusive practices, intervention systems, and student-centered programming.
- Supports professional learning and coaching related to special education compliance, instructional practices, MTSS, and student support systems.
- Assists with district monitoring processes related to special education programs, services, and compliance.
- Thought partner and consultant in Special Education with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
- Performs other leadership, supervisory, managerial, and compliance-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.
