RONDOUT VALLEY CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Health and Physical Education Teacher to join our instructional team.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, student-centered educator who is committed to promoting lifelong fitness, wellness, healthy decision-making, and a positive school culture. This individual should be able to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues; create inclusive learning environments; and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
The ideal candidate will also be interested in contributing to the broader school community through athletic coaching, extracurricular activities, and/or wellness initiatives. Prior coaching experience or a willingness to coach is preferred.
The Health and Physical Education Teacher will:
- Plan and deliver standards-aligned physical education and health education lessons consistent with New York State learning standards, district curriculum, and student needs.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment in all instructional settings.
- Teach skills and concepts related to movement, fitness, wellness, health literacy, personal safety, nutrition, mental and emotional health, substance abuse prevention, healthy relationships, and responsible decision-making, as appropriate to grade level and district curriculum.
- Differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including students with disabilities, English language learners, and students with medical or physical limitations.
- Implement accommodations, modifications, IEPs, 504 plans, medical limitations, and adapted physical education recommendations as applicable.
- Assess student learning and maintain accurate records of attendance, participation, progress, and achievement.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, counselors, nurses, administrators, and support staff.
- Maintain and inventory instructional materials, athletic equipment, fitness equipment, and health education resources.
- Support district wellness initiatives, school-wide events, and student engagement activities.
- Participate in department meetings, faculty meetings, professional development, curriculum work, and other duties as assigned.
- Follow all district policies, safety procedures, mandated reporting requirements, and professional expectations.
Required Qualifications:
- NYS Certification, Physical Education, All Grades AND Health Education, All Grades
- SED Fingerprint Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with standards-based grading, differentiated instruction, and inclusive/adapted physical education.
- Knowledge of current wellness, fitness, health literacy, and social-emotional learning practices.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.
- Coaching, extracurricular advising, or athletics experience.
Salary: Per Contract
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:25am- 2:35pm
Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the direct report and/or Superintendent.
